About the Uzbekistan Psychiatric Association
The Uzbekistan Psychiatric Association (UPA) is a professional non-profit organisation established as a public association of specialists in psychiatry and addiction medicine. It brings together physicians, researchers, educators and other professionals working in psychiatry, addiction medicine and mental health. The Association was founded on 22 February 2019 and registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 25 March 2019 (Registration Certificate No. 877).
UPA works to advance modern, evidence-based, ethical and accessible psychiatric care in Uzbekistan. Its main areas of work include continuing professional education, support for research and clinical practice, the exchange and implementation of scientific knowledge, the development of professional and ethical standards, the protection of the rights and dignity of people with mental disorders, and the reduction of stigma and discrimination.
The Association organises scientific and educational events and conferences, supports early-career professionals and the development of mentorship, and strengthens cooperation among specialists from different regions and institutions. Association members participate as experts in developing clinical protocols (treatment protocols) and standards for the provision of medical care in psychiatry and addiction medicine for the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as in the professional certification of specialists in the field.
UPA also develops international cooperation with the World Psychiatric Association and national psychiatric associations in WPA Zone 10 through joint educational and scientific initiatives and professional exchange. One example is the scientific and educational project "Samarkand Spring School for Young Psychiatrists and Addiction Medicine Specialists", held every two years in April in Samarkand. It brings together specialist speakers from different countries to introduce young psychiatrists and addiction medicine specialists to contemporary advances in global science and practice, as well as to unite young professionals. On the ancient and hospitable land of Uzbekistan, a new generation of specialists comes together โ energetic, ambitious and open to the world. Drawing on the rich historical and cultural heritage of our country, young professionals boldly set new goals, move forward with confidence and strive to build a future based on knowledge, innovation and professional development.
Today, Uzbekistan's young professionals are a generation ready not only to meet the challenges of our time, but also to create new opportunities. They are open to collaboration, scientific exchange and constructive dialogue, bringing together the experience of different generations, countries and professional schools.
Uzbekistan's ancient land is becoming a space where tradition meets modernity and bold ideas gain the prospect of international cooperation. Together, we look ahead, combine our efforts and open new horizons for the development of science, the professional community and the future of our country.
